Things to do in Fredericksburg, TX

I live here, and this is the list I hand people when they ask what to do in Fredericksburg. No tourist traps, no paid placements. Just the spots and events worth your time, whether you're here for a fall weekend or thinking about staying a little longer.

This Week in Fredericksburg

The fastest way to plan your trip: my Fall Guide. It's a living list of what's actually happening in town, updated every week through December. Festivals, wine dinners, live music, markets. The stuff you'd only hear about if you knew someone here.

Wineries and wine tasting

Fredericksburg sits in the middle of Texas wine country, with more than fifty wineries and tasting rooms within a short drive. The 290 corridor east of town is the main stretch, but some of my favorites are the smaller spots most visitors drive right past.

A few of my go-tos: Reddy Vineyards, Slate Theory, Halter Ranch, Augusta Vin, Calivence, and Untamed. The full list, with the ones worth the drive, is in the Fall Guide.

Where to eat

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the coffee stops in between. Fredericksburg punches way above its weight on food, and the best tables aren't always on Main Street.

My personal favorites: Sunset Grill or the Airport Diner for breakfast, Vaudeville for lunch, Granite House or Prometheus for dinner, and Kaffee Haus or Sunday Supply when you need a good cup. The full quick guide is in the Fall Guide, and my restaurant finder breaks it down by what you're in the mood for.

Live music and nightlife

Most weekends there's live music somewhere in town, from picking circles on a patio to full bands at the venues on and off Main. After dinner, Elk Store, 78624 The Bar, and Maggie's Speakeasy are where I'd send you.

Seasonal Events

Fall is the busiest stretch of the year here. Oktoberfest, the food and wine festival, holiday markets, and a steady run of wine dinners and harvest events in between.

These change every week, which is exactly why the Fall Guide exists. It's the one place I keep all of it current.

Scenic drives and the Hill Country

Some of the best parts of a Fredericksburg trip are the roads between stops. Willow City Loop in wildflower season, the ride out to Enchanted Rock, and a handful of back roads most visitors never find.

Thinking about moving to Fredericksburg?

A lot of people come for a weekend and start doing the math on staying. If that's you, I'm happy to show you around town and talk through what living here actually looks like.

Hey, I'm Doug, Fredericksburg local and Realtor with Reata Ranch Realty, and this town is my favorite thing to talk about.
