Twisted Sisters Full Day
Leave Fredericksburg via TX 16, pick up the three sisters in Medina, and give the day to the canyons. This is the road everyone asks about — package it as a day that actually works from town.
- Lost Maples Country Store, Vanderpool — fuel, snacks, the pause before the hard miles
- Bent Rim Grill / Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop, Leakey — burgers, Frito pie, bike parking
- The Hog Pen, RM 336 — BBQ and a beer if the hours line up (Wed / Fri–Sun)
Fuel in Medina, Leakey, and Camp Wood. Blind crests, free-range cattle, thin shoulders. The Hog Pen is not daily. This is not a wine-tasting day. Already rode 335, 336, and 337? That is the Rocksprings / Highway 55 day.

Rocksprings / Highway 55
West out of Kerrville on 27 to Mountain Home, then SH 41 across the Edwards Plateau and US 377 into Rocksprings. That outbound is open country, not the canyons. Lunch on the square. South on SH 55 to Camp Wood — sweepers, trucks, the Nueces. Then RM 337 east to Leakey, the sister you already rode, and home 337 through Medina. Skip 335 and 336 on purpose. Longer miles than the three-sisters day; 55 is the point.
- Jailhouse Bar & Grill, 108 W Austin St, Rocksprings — lunch on the square. Confirm hours; closed Tuesday
- King Burger, 102 Main St — the backup grill if Jailhouse is dark
- Bent Rim Grill, Leakey — fuel and a pause after 337. You have been here
Do not turn onto RM 335 at Barksdale — that is the sisters day. SH 41 is fast plateau; SH 55 has trucks and 70-mph stretches. Fuel in Rocksprings, Camp Wood, and Leakey. Jailhouse is closed Tuesday. Devil's Sinkhole is a side quest, not this drive. This is a long day from town.

Enchanted Rock + Willow City Loop
North on FM 965 to Enchanted Rock, then the Willow City Loop and home via FM 1323 or TX 16. The drive you can do after coffee and still make dinner in town.

- Enchanted Rock State Natural Area — stretch, granite, photos
- Back on Main for lunch, or push north to Cooper's in Llano if you want BBQ as the destination
Spring wildflower weekends turn Willow City into a parking lot. Private ranch land — stay on the pavement. Cattle, cattle guards, and low-water crossings. East on 1323 past 1631 is the Horseshoe Bay day, not a longer loop.

Llano BBQ Run
A Hill Country plate worth the tank of gas. Take TX 16 or peel onto Willow City, land in Llano for Cooper's, and roll home before dark.

Medina Apple Country + 337 Warm-Up
TX 16 to Kerrville, then Medina for Love Creek / the Apple Store. Continue onto RM 337 toward Vanderpool if the group is up for it — turn around if they are not.

Luckenbach Backroads Afternoon
South and southeast farm roads to Luckenbach, home on backroads instead of 290. Proves the finder can do more than canyon-carving.
- Luckenbach Texas — the postcard stop, not the technical one
- Friday–Sunday: Black Board Bar B Q is 15 minutes south on 1376 if you want lunch before the postcard
- Spin the Bar Finder for a brewery or beer garden once you are back
Weekend tour-bus energy at Luckenbach. Go early or on a weekday. Black Board in Sisterdale is Friday–Sunday only.

Tivydale to Cafe at The Ridge
West out of town on Tivydale — FM 2093 — then White Oak Road, the ribbon that packs the turns into a few miles. Land on South Ranch Road 783 at Cafe at The Ridge: scratch comfort food, patio, bakery next door. Come home the same way. Those ranch roads are why you came, and they are still the fastest twisty pavement back. 16 to Kerrville is the cheat. Harper and 290 are the long way around, not a clever loop. Keep it short and sweet — this is the time-crunch carve, not a half-day wander.
- White Oak Road — the twisty cut. Stay on it; 2093 west to Harper is not this drive
- Cafe at The Ridge, 13439 S Ranch Rd 783 — lunch. Closed Monday; Tuesday–Thursday opens at 11
- Wild Flour Bakery next door — pie and coffee if the table wants a lighter stop
Cafe is closed Monday. Tuesday–Thursday lunch starts at 11; Friday–Sunday they open at 8. Maps will offer 16 to Kerrville — decline. Thin ranch pavement, cattle, no services once you leave town. Do not turn north on 783 to Harper. Bandera on 16 and Hunt on 27 are other drives, not the way home.

Luckenbach to Blanco BBQ
South to Luckenbach for the glance, then RM 1888 — River Road — the 16 miles of sweepers that motorcycle and sports-car people already know. Land on the Blanco square at Old 300 BBQ. Redbud Cafe is next door if the table wants a Reuben instead. Come home on RM 1623 along the Blanco River through Stonewall, then RM 2721 into Fredericksburg. That return is the point. Do not bail onto 290.
- Luckenbach — the postcard pause, then keep rolling. Lunch is in Blanco
- Old 300 BBQ, 318 4th St — brisket on the courthouse square. Open daily; Sunday closes at 3
- Redbud Cafe on the square — the Reuben if the group is not in a BBQ mood
Sunday Old 300 closes at 3. Weekend Luckenbach tour buses — go through early. RM 1888 is quiet ranch road, not a canyon. The 1623 / 2721 return skips the 290 wine trail; do not cheat it.

Pedernales River Cruise
East toward Stonewall, peel onto Ranch Road 1 along the Pedernales, through LBJ country and Hye. A scenic loop for mixed groups who will not enjoy Twisted Sisters.
- LBJ State Park & Historic Site — stretch and a view
- Hye — a quick stop, then decide if you want wine-trail traffic or backroads home
- Dinner back in Fredericksburg from the Restaurant Finder
290 wine-trail congestion on Saturdays. Ranch Road 1 is the point; 290 is the compromise.

2721 to Johnson City
East on RM 2721 — pick it up off 1631 out of town — the sweeper that parallels 290 without the tasting-room traffic. Left on RM 1320 at Post Oak, right on RM 1323 at Sandy, right on 281 into Johnson City. Pecan Street Brewing on the courthouse square is the lunch. Proof & Cooper and Hill Country Cupboard are walking distance if the table wants a different plate. Come home the same way. Those three ranch roads are why you came, and they are still the best pavement back. 290 is the cheat. 1623 through Blanco, 1323 west to Willow City, and 1631 all the way to Althaus Davis / Horseshoe Bay are other drives from town, not a clever loop.
- RM 2721 at Post Oak — left onto 1320 toward Sandy. Stay off 290
- Pecan Street Brewing, 106 E Pecan Dr — brewpub on the square. Open daily; Wednesday closes at 3
- Proof & Cooper or Hill Country Cupboard — the other square plates if the group splits
Pecan Street closes at 3 on Wednesday. Maps will offer 290 both directions — decline. Ranch traffic and hidden driveways on 2721. The 281 stub is just the last two miles into town. Bryan's on 290 is dinner-only, not this lunch. Stay on 2721 once you peel off 1631 — the rest of 1631 to 1323 is the Horseshoe Bay day.

Althaus Davis to Horseshoe Bay
Stay on RM 1631 all the way out of town — do not peel onto 2721. That is the Johnson City day. Short east on 1323, then Althaus Davis (CR 310), paved through since about 2021 to RM 3347. 3347 to 962, north to 71, 2147 into Cottonwood Shores / Horseshoe Bay. Bay View Restaurant is the lake-view lunch. Julie's Cocina is next door if you want Mexican or Bay View is dark. Come home the same way. Those ranch roads are why you came, and they are still the best pavement back. 290 and 281 are the cheat. Willow City Loop is the other 1323 day. If you want a loop instead of an out-and-back, 281 south to 1323 west the long way to 1631 stays off 290 — more highway, less Althaus Davis, not twistier.
- RM 1631 to 1323 — stay on 1631. 2721 is the Johnson City day
- Althaus Davis Rd (CR 310) — the paved ranch cut onto RM 3347
- Bay View Restaurant, 4401 Cottonwood Dr — lake view. Closed Tuesday
- Julie's Cocina, 4319 FM 2147 — Mexican next door. Tuesday play; Sunday lunch ends 1:30
Bay View is closed Tuesday. Julie's is open Tuesday and closes 1:30 on Sunday. No fuel on 1631, Althaus Davis, or 3347 — fill in town and at the lake. Cattle and thin county pavement. Maps will offer 16 or 290 — decline. Do not turn 2721. Do not go west on 1323 into Willow City Loop. 962 east of Round Mountain is Hamilton Pool / Austin, not home.

Devil's Backbone Full Day
South on 1376 past Luckenbach — keep rolling — then RM 473 toward Kendalia and onto RM 32. That is the Devil's Backbone: a few miles of ridge between Fischer and Wimberley, not a canyon. Pull off at the overlook. The tavern is a honky-tonk pause, not lunch. Eat in Wimberley, then home on 2325 and 165 through Blanco, 1623 and 2721 into Fredericksburg. This is not the Blanco BBQ day and it is not a 290 transfer. Skip FM 306 around Canyon Lake.
- Devil's Backbone Overlook, RM 32 — the pull-off and the view. That is the reason for the extra miles
- Devil's Backbone Tavern, 4041 FM 32, Fischer — honky-tonk pause. No kitchen; restaurant next door
- The Leaning Pear, 111 River Rd, Wimberley — lunch Wednesday–Sunday. The square if Pear is dark Monday–Tuesday
The famous ridge is a couple of miles — do not sell it as Twisted Sisters. Weekend motorcycle and Wimberley traffic. The tavern does not serve food. Leaning Pear is closed Monday–Tuesday; eat on the Wimberley square or grab Old 300 on the Blanco pass-through. Do not drop onto FM 306 / Canyon Lake. Glance Blanco; do not turn this into the BBQ day.

Hunt + Guadalupe River Cruise
West out of Kerrville on the Guadalupe to Ingram and Hunt — camps, cypress, and a road that follows the water. Turn around at Hunt and come home on 27 through Center Point and Comfort, then RM 473 into Sisterdale for Black Board Bar B Q. That is the lunch, and it is worth timing the river for. Backroads into Fredericksburg after. Luckenbach is a glance on 1376 if you still want it.

- Black Board Bar B Q, Sisterdale — craft brisket on the way home. One of the best plates in the Hill Country
- Backroads into FBG on 1376 — Luckenbach is optional if you still have daylight
Black Board is Friday–Sunday for BBQ (Thursday is burger night). Closed Monday–Wednesday. Confirm hours; they sell out. Summer camp and tube traffic on 39. Crider's is evening / seasonal, not midday. Do not drop onto RM 1340 unless you want low-water crossings.

Apache Indoor Range + High's in Comfort
This is a gun-range day. South on 1376 through Luckenbach — glance, keep rolling — then RM 473 into Comfort. The last couple of miles are I-10 frontage to Apache Rifleworks: a 25-yard indoor pistol and rifle range. Bring your own, or call ahead if you need to rent one. After the lanes, back into town for High's Cafe on High Street — sandwiches, soup, the Comfort lunch people actually drive for. Come home the same ranch roads. US 87 is the cheat. 16 to Kerrville and I-10 is the other one.
- RM 1376 through Luckenbach — the glance, then keep rolling. Lunch is in Comfort
- Apache Rifleworks indoor gun range, 50502 I-10 W, Comfort — 25-yard pistol and rifle. Closed Sunday–Monday. Call ahead to rent a gun if you do not have your own
- High's Cafe & Store, 726 High St — sandwiches and soup on High Street. Closed Monday–Tuesday
The day that does both is Wednesday–Saturday. Apache is closed Sunday–Monday; the range runs 10–5 Tuesday–Saturday. High's is closed Monday–Tuesday and shuts at 5, so shoot first. No gun of your own? Call Apache first (210-972-3607) to rent one. Lanes get reserved for private events. No shotguns, no open-toe shoes; eye and ear protection rent there. Maps will offer 87 both ways — decline. This is not the Hunt river day. Black Board in Sisterdale is Friday–Sunday if High's is slammed.

Kerrville to Bandera on 16
TX 16 south through Kerrville and Medina is the Hill Country 16 — sweepers, river crossings, ranch country — not the connector back to town. Land in Bandera, the Cowboy Capital, for lunch. Come home on 173 past Camp Verde so you are not retracing the same pavement. Skip the long orchard stop; that is the Medina pie day.
- Medina — fuel and a wave at the Apple Store, then keep rolling
- O.S.T. Restaurant, Bandera — diner plates in the Cowboy Capital (check hours; Tue/Wed close early)
- Camp Verde General Store on 173 — the historic pause on the way home
Bandera weekends are cowboy-tourism busy. O.S.T. is not a late lunch on Tuesday or Wednesday. 16 has blind curves and ranch traffic. Do not turn this into the 337 / Lost Maples day.

Lost Maples Fall Color
When the bigtooth maples turn, this becomes the Hill Country drive people plan weekends around. Same corridor as the sisters, different reason to go — color, not curves.
